From a distance, Flores’ work seems whimsical and lighthearted, but step closer and it’s not that simple. The seemingly indestructible structures and symbols of mankind are ripped apart as nature invades the decaying structures with unrelenting furry. Flores eloquently portrays man’s notions of structure to be foolish and presumptive. I wish more children’s books, dictionaries and maps were filled with such honest imagery. It would make the path a lot clearer.
